Real estate gets overwhelming when you’re doing everything alone, and if you’ve been in real estate for a while, you know how fast this business moves.

There’s always a client calling, a showing to get to, a listing appointment to prepare for, or a sign that needs to go up. And that’s where burnout can start to creep in. So, let’s talk about it. There are three things you can look at if you think you might be heading toward burnout.

1. Set time limits. I always turn my phone off at a certain time in the evening, usually between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the latest. Don’t try to be the agent who’s available 24/7.

Let your clients know upfront that you have boundaries, and be disciplined about checking messages the next morning. We carry our phones everywhere, so you have to create space for it.

2. Time block your week. If you’ve read The 4 Disciplines of Execution, you know about the whirlwind, that constant pull of unexpected tasks that pop up throughout the day. Time blocking helps manage that.

Don’t overload your calendar thinking you’ll get everything done, because something always comes up. Make a plan early in the week, and even day by day, so you have room to deal with the whirlwind without getting frustrated.

“Your business should grow, and you shouldn’t burn out while building it.”

3. Consider hiring an assistant. There are some really sharp virtual assistants who can take care of tasks that aren’t income-producing, so you can focus on driving revenue. You don’t have to do everything alone, especially if you’re on a team or you have access to a coach or mentor; use that support.

Our team works together and gives full support behind our agents, so they’re never stuck trying to juggle everything by themselves. That’s one of the biggest benefits of being a part of our team.

Your business should grow, and you shouldn’t burn out while building it. If you’re interested to learn more about how we can help you with your business, reach out to us at (317) 732-1045 or info@markdietel.com. I’m always happy to talk with you more about it.
